Baker McKenzie’s Global Customs Practice invites you to join us for a webinar we’ll be hosting on “Trump and Tariffs: Focus on the US, Canada and Mexico”.

This one-hour webinar will take place Wednesday, 5 February 2025 at 10:00 Mexico City / 11:00 EST / 17:00 CET.

On February 1st 2025, President Trump signed executive orders imposing the long-anticipated tariffs he has called on for Canada and Mexico including 25% tariffs on non-energy imports from Canada and on all imports from Mexico as well as 10% tariffs on energy imports from Canada. At the same time, President Trump has imposed 10% tariffs on imports of Chinese-origin goods.

However, at the last hour, President Trump announced a pause of at least 30 days for the implementation of tariffs for Canada; and a delay in the implementation of tariffs for Mexico. At the time of publication of this invitation, there are unconfirmed press reports of a possible delay in the implementation of the additional China tariffs too.

In this webinar, a global panel of our senior customs and tax lawyers will discuss:

  • The immediate implications of the US’s tariffs on Canada and Mexico, as well as Canada’s countermeasures;
  • What we can expect during the month in which duty imposition has been paused between Mexico/ Canada/ China and the US;
  • Impacts to the USMCA if tariffs are imposed;
  • Considerations with respect to both the transfer pricing and customs valuation implications resulting from increased costs through these potential tariffs; and
  • What businesses need to do now in the face of these developments to navigate the customs landscape in North America and mitigate any potential additional tariffs.

Our panelists will also provide practical experience on best practices to mitigate operational disruption in response to trade disruption as well as insights into what we can expect from the Trump administration moving forward.
